Shredder Oil
All paper shredders need to be regularly oiled with shredder
oil to continue to function properly. Paper dust from the shredding
process builds up inside the shredder around the cutters, and
by oiling the cutting head in your shredder you effectively prolong
the life of the machine.
Please Note: You may be tempted to oil your shredder with some
other type of lubricant (WD 40) or even another brand of shredder
oil. However we recommend that you don't do this as this
could void the manufacturer's warranty. Rather purchase shredder
oil from the same manufacturer of paper shredder you own or wish
to buy because their shredder oil leaves no residue on the cutters
unlike other oils which will attract paper dust and in turn clog
the cutting head.
Oiling Your Paper Shredder
Oiling the cutters of your machine is part and parcel of owning
a shredder. You should be aware that if you own a cross cut shredder
that they need to be oiled more than a strip cut shredder of the
same size and specs. Also as a rule of thumb the higher the security
level and finer the cut the paper shredder makes, the more oil
it will need. Most manufacturers recommend oiling the cutters
once every 30 minutes of continuous shredding. We also recommend
you oil your paper shredder every time you change the shredder
bag.
Oiling your shredder is very simple and can be done by anybody.
There are various ways to do it effectively. If you purchase shredder
oil in a squeeze bottle then you can apply shredder oil
directly onto the cutting head in a fine stream through the paper
entry throat, taking 1-2 seconds to oil from one side of the opening
to the other.
You will then need to turn your shredder on to reverse for about
10 to 20 seconds to allow the shredder oil to be transferred to
all parts of the cutting heads. Once this is done shred a few
sheets of paper to remove the excess shredder oil.If you are planning
on shredding a decent amount of documents the you could also apply
shredder oil to a sheet of paper in a zigzag motion during the
shredding process to keep the machine running at optimum. Do make
sure however not to soak the entire sheet in shredder oil.
We also supply shredder oil in an easy to use aerosol can. Simply
spray the oil into the throat opening and then start shredding. We
also have a large selection of shredder bags and shredder waste
sacks for over 300 different models of shredders that we supply. |
